A Therapeutic Approach
A safe place to feel accepted, listened to and happy
“I can’t overstate the importance of empathy. Empathy is not just the start of our helping it is the most important and effective part of our help” (Dan Hughes).
Kindness – Friendship – Consideration – Warmth – Courage – Strength
PACE
PACE is a way of thinking, feeling, communicating and behaving that aims to make a child or young person feel safe.
All of staff are trained in PACE and consistently use this approach to the benefit of our young people. Through PACE we focus on the whole child, not simply the behaviour. We help our children and young people to feel secure and to be able to discuss their thoughts and feelings in a safe place.
Emotional Connection – Consistency – Unconditional Positive Regard

How does this look at Corfe Valley
PLAY
As adults we are open, calm, relaxed and engaged with each child and young person. We laugh and have fun!
We are positive, unconditional and show a deep interest in each other.
Acceptance
Children and young people at Corfe Valley feel accepted and secure. We never judge and will always listen to our young people.
Curiosity
We are non-judgemental and open. As adults we are curious about our young people and take the time to really get to know them. We ensure our tone is quiet and accepting.
Empathy
As adults our role is to communicate strength, love and commitment and working together with the young person equally. We are compassionate and provide comfort and support.
