Our Alternative Provision

Corfe Valley Outdoor Learning offers short-term, targeted support for children and young people who are unable to engage with their educational setting due to their SEND or SEMH needs. We have experience working with children and young people with Autism, ADHD, anxiety, PDA and various other needs and we have helped many children and young people successfully return to, or start new educational settings.

We have a growing reputation for providing quality Alternative Provision with partnerships with schools across Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.

We are on the Dorset Alternative Provision Framework and are an accredited Alternative Provision provider for BCP Council. We have a number of contracts and service level agreements with schools across Dorset, Hampshire and Somerset.

The Referral Process

We can accept referrals from any registered school or Local Authority, provided the young person is on roll.

Once the referral is made, we work in close partnership to ensure a bespoke, child-centred plan is built around the young person to enable us to help meet their needs.

We encourage visits to our site from parents and staff involved with the child to meet us, see our site and view our safeguarding procedures. This gives confidence in our service and helps us to form a strong partnership in order to help give the best possible outcomes for the young person.

Our Commitment

Once a clear plan and timeframes have been agreed, we begin our work with the young person. Our dedicated team of highly-skilled, qualified teachers, plan and deliver high-quality sessions and experiences targeted to help make progress towards their outcomes.

We build strong, positive relationships with the young person to create a safe, inclusive environment.

We keep the Local Authority, schools and parents updated with comprehensive weekly reports which include details of progress and achievements as well as attendance figures. We communicate regularly with the referrer to ensure that we are meeting need and that our service is having an impact on the young person.

We endeavour to attend EHCP and Annual Review meetings in order to update on progress and give our input on next steps.

Transitions

We are keen to ensure all of our young people succeed in a sustainable return to their educational settings. We work with schools and parents to ensure that a smooth transition is put in place to enable this. Often, we will continue our work with a young person, reducing our hours over a half term – we have found that a well-managed, staged transition is the key to a successful return to school.

Safeguarding

All of our staff are committed to ensuring the safeguarding of all of our children and young people and receive annual approved safeguarding training.

Our Level 3 trained Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Safeguarding Lead have developed a culture of sharing information. We have rigorous policies and procedures in place, which are in line with the Pan-Dorset Safeguarding guidance. We keep in regular contact
