Our Alternative Provision
Using farming practices, horticulture, and Forest School activities, Corfe Valley is designed to reengage children with a love for learning whilst enriching their well-being and mental health. All of our services are completely unique and tailored to each individual child’s needs.
Who We Are
We currently offer short term educational, therapeutic and reengagement placements. These service do not have to stand alone and can be incorporated together to best meet the needs of individual children. We work closely alongside lead professionals, schools, parents and carers, and of course, the children themselves, in order to ensure we deliver the best possible outcomes for each child. Children may attend Corfe Valley Care Farm from anything from a few hours to three days a week.
Education
We offer a bespoke education package, individually designed for each child and driven by their specific needs and interests. It is delivered by experienced, qualified teachers using an outdoor, practical approach to learning and rooted in farming practices.
Reengagement
Designed to build confidence, self esteem and reignite a love for learning, our reengagement package enables children and young people to understand and explore their feelings in a safe, nurturing and positive outdoor environment.
Therapy
Within this unique service we deliver a therapeutic approach to a child’s emotional, behavioural and social needs, delivered through a range of approaches such as animal care, ecotherapy, horticulture therapy and Lego therapy.
What to Expect
A small taster of the range of experiences available to children and young people who attend Corfe Valley.
Horticulture
Children can learn to plant and grow a range of vegetables, fruit, herbs and flowers in our polytunnel and raised beds.
Animal Care
Our onsite animals provide a calming and understanding presence. Through simple methods of communication, routine and understanding boundaries, children can develop their communication and social skills
Woodworking
Children can build confidence through the safe use of handling a variety of tools and materials to design and create for a purpose.
Off-Site Visits
We are fortunate to be placed in the heart of the Purbeck Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Where it is appropriate, we take children offsite to explore, learn and connect with nature.
Forest School
Led by our Level 3 Forest School trained staff, we offer a child-centred inspirational learning process in a natural setting including: Fire lighting, shelter building and whittling.
Core Subject Skills
With an in-depth knowledge of the National Curriculum, we aim to deliver key skills and concepts to children and young people through an inspiring, innovative and practical approach.
Safeguarding
Safeguarding our children, young people and their families is at the forefront of all we do at Corfe Valley. We have a robust and detailed system for recording all concerns and allegations. Our staff are all highly trained with both the safeguarding lead and deputy lead trained to Level 3. All staff and volunteers are trained to Level 2 and our safeguarding training is renewed on an annual basis.
